Legal system The principal basis of the Polish legal system is the present Polish constitution, established on April 2nd, 1997. Since the adoption of the new constitution, Poland underwent major changes, rapid economic growth and, most importantly, succeeded in the accession to the European Union in 2004, which brought about many legislative changes needed to adapt to the common-wealth conditions. In principle, the judicial system is presented in article 173 of the Polish Constitution.
